Sanggar Lestari Indonesia or Indonesian Performing Group was found on November 11th, 2001. We perform Indonesian traditional dances from different provinces. We are establishing our "sanggar" as a place for people who live in Georgia to learn more about Indonesian cultures through the dances. We used to have two dances instructors from Bali, Indonesia (I Nyoman Sedana and Seniasih) who taught Balinese dances. After they went back to Indonesia, Rima McGraw, one of the founders, takes over the teaching. She has been teaching several dances like PANEN from West Sumatra province, YAPONG and RONGGENG BLANTEK from Jakarta and many dances will follow. Our group has been participating in major community cultural events and supporting the local charity groups. We treat all members like family and it is fun to learn more about our heritage cultures and at the same time we get a good work out to keep our body in good shape. We welcome Indonesian-American youngsters to participate with us to serve the community and to learn more about our heritage. We also welcome everyone who is interested in learning Indonesian traditional dances. Please contact us for more information. Contact us: President: Rima McGraw Web site updated by: Risti Courtney |
