High Tea by the Bay Fundraiser

We were so honoured to be invited by the Indonesian Diaspora Network (IDN) Vic to perform at the ‘High Tea by the Bay Fundraiser’ last Saturday. It was a beautiful sunny day by the bay with entertainment, auctions, cultural sharing and some delicious treats!

But this was no ordinary high tea - there was an essential purpose, to raise funds for the Nelelamadike Village of Eastern Nusa Tenggara Indonesia. The funds raised at this event will support the village in becoming a 'smart village', with quality education and opportunities for all.

Indonesian Consul General Pak Kuncoro Waseso formally opened the event with a speech and acknowledgement of country. It was wonderful to celebrate the land we practice our culture on and the diversity of Naarm (Melbourne) in 2022.

Proceeds from tickets sold, donations, and auction purchases provided the village libraries with books that focus on Literacy, Maths and Science for Early Childhood - High School children and books for the general community. The funds will also be put towards financing the village for literacy activities in the library.

For this event, Sanggar Lestari performed Tari 'Taume Anuku' from the East Nusa Tenggara Region. It was wonderful to represent and showcase the authentic headpieces and woven kain ikat of Nusa Tenggara as we performed this wonderful dance.

Performers: Mira, Seraina, Laura and Asti
Hair/Costume: Mama Ning & Yana

Sanggar Lestari also had the pleasure of greeting guests at check-in to welcome them safely to the event.

We had a fulfilled Saturday as we love supporting such events! To find out more about the charities and organisations we support, see here

We look forward to our next dance performance - it's going to be a busy few months ahead!
