MSO Youth Music Camp Yogyakarta

Over the past 4 years, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) and The Special Region of Yogyakarta have worked closely together on an annual Youth Music Camp, a performance-based program aimed to exchange knowledge in music.

In early October this year, we were honoured to be invited to a collaborative performance by Didik Nini Thowok and MSO, with special guests including the Sultan, Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Mangkubumi of Yogyakarta, Mr Y. Kristiarto S. Legowo, Indonesian Ambassador to Australia, Ms Spica A. Tutuhatunewa, Indonesian Consul-General in Melbourne, and Deputy Premier the Hon. Today, we were again grateful to be invited to watch MSO together with 2 musicians from the 2019 Youth Music Camp in Yogyakarta, Iqbal Harja Maulana (violin), and Rizki Ikhsani (cello). To celebrate the creative partnership between MSO and the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

Mama Ning and Deena represented Lestari at this beautiful event, where the talented quartet performed for us all in the middle of the MPavilion - Queen Victoria Garden. Although, in true Melbourne style, the weather went from pouring rain to windy to sunny in the space of half an hour. The musicians handled the weather conditions with such grace and professionalism, even with their music sheets flying in the wind - it only added to how amazing they are as artists. The concert was followed by an afternoon tea, nibbles, and of course ‘foto bersama’.

The day ended beautifully as the sun came up and we all spoke with some of the artists from the Youth Music Camp to work on other collaborative ideas for the future.
