Why do you like Indonesian dancing?

I love Indonesian dancing because it keeps me in touch with my cultural heritage. I enjoy learning more about Indonesia through its unique and diverse dances, and it connects me with like-minded people outside of my home country.

Why are you passionate about Indonesia?

I have lived in Indonesia for the first 10 years of my life, and now currently living in Australia has made me appreciate Indonesia more. It is such a wonderful country filled with a lot of different cultures. I am passionate about Indonesia as it is a part of who I am, from traditions to family, and also food.

My favourite style of Indonesian dance

I love Javanese and Balinese dances. These two are my favourites as I feel that I have the most connection with them as I grew up in Jakarta, and Bali has been my second home in Indonesia. The styles of these dances are intriguing alongside the beautiful traditional clothing.

How long have you been a part of Sanggar Lestari?

I joined Sanggar Lestari towards the end of 2018. I had just moved to Melbourne from Cairns mid 2018 and wanted to continue learning Indonesian dancing, so I searched and came across Sanggar Lestari. I then decided to join as it felt best suited to my love of a traditional and authentic Indonesia.
